Four ways of working wood

The workshop designs and builds everything in-house, from site survey to installation. No subcontracting: the hand that draws is the hand that sands.

Bespoke kitchens

Bespoke kitchens

Solid or veneered wood fronts, joiner-built cabinets, matching worktops. A kitchen designed for your room, not adapted to it.

Bookcases & walk-in wardrobes

Bookcases & walk-in wardrobes

Floor to ceiling, under eaves, into alcoves: the joinery follows your walls to the millimetre and frees up space instead of taking it.

From survey to installation

Four steps, always the same. That's how we can name a lead time — and keep it.

  1. Meeting & survey

An on-site visit, laser measurements, time to understand how you use the space. We leave with the exact dimensions and the real constraints of the room.

    Week 1
  2. Drawings & wood species

Dimensioned drawings, species chosen from samples, a quotation detailed line by line. You approve a drawing, not a promise.

    Weeks 2–3
  3. Fabrication in the workshop

Cutting, machining, assembly and finishing in our Grivegnée workshop. You are welcome to come and see your piece while it is being made.

    Depending on the project
  4. Installation & finishing

Installed by the team that built it, adjusted on site, your home protected throughout. We leave when it's right.

Julien Aubier, founder — at the bench since 1998

Atelier Aubier was founded in 1998 by Julien Aubier, a cabinetmaker trained in the compagnonnage guild tradition. Today, four journeymen work solid and veneered wood there, on machines we maintain like precision tools — because that is what they are.

We turn down more projects than we take on. Not for show, but because some forty jobs a year is what the workshop can deliver at the level we want to deliver them.

What clients say

The wardrobe went in a year ago. Every door still closes exactly as it did on day one — it sounds trivial, but that's what bespoke is.

They designed our reception desk around our constraints: cabling, accessibility, acoustics. The result looks the part and works.

Questions — PL.06

What we are often asked

What budget should I allow for a bespoke project?

Every project is priced item by item after the survey. As a guide: a bookcase starts around €4,800, a walk-in wardrobe around €5,500, a complete kitchen around €18,000. The detailed quotation is free and without obligation.

What are your current lead times?

Allow 6 to 14 weeks between sign-off on the drawings and installation, depending on complexity. The lead time stated in the quotation is a commitment, not an estimate.

Where do you work?

The workshop is in Grivegnée (Liège). We work within a radius of about 60 km: Liège, Verviers, Huy, Waremme, as well as neighbouring Limburg and, for certain projects, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Where does your wood come from?

European species from certified sources (PEFC/FSC), dried and stored at the workshop. American walnut is the only exception — chosen for its grain, and a choice we stand by.

How does payment work?

30% on order, 40% when fabrication starts, the balance on installation. No surprises: the quotation itemises every line, and the applicable VAT (6% for the renovation of homes over 10 years old) is stated up front.

What if a problem shows up after installation?

Our work is guaranteed for 10 years. A door with a little play, a drawer that rubs: we come back, we put it right — it's included in the price.
